The Making of Galaxy II

The wood container is turned from WW II Black Walnut, M1 Garand rifle stock offcuts. The center disc is copper enamel with Fine Silver granulation. The thick black vitreous enamel has been hand stoned through seven firings to smooth and flatten. Each Silver sphere was formed individually. Tiny snippets of Silver were melted one at time and rolled down a charcoal block. They solidified as they fell, spinning through the air into cold water. They were then set in place with agar(glue), and kiln fired at 1500°F until the balls settled into the supple enamel surface. Each bead is locked in place by the hardened glass enamel.
